FAQ's
Can the wagons be shipped to other countries?
An example: One shipped to California for £2450 including insurance and import duties in a 20 ft container taking 29 days at sea with 7 days frequency of sailing.
How easy is it to keep the canvas clean?
Cleaning
the canvas is always a tricky one with several options. The canvas can
be cleaned with a detergent free waterproof material cleaner such as
Nikwax tech wash available from outdoor leisure suppliers. I've heard
of people using jiff to good effect, although this would take off the
green colour. The old gypsy method when the canvas gets pretty grubby
is to repaint it. It's important to remember that the nature of it
being a canvas means it will gain a certain amount of dirt which can
only add to it's character!
What sort of paint do you use on the outside?
It
is painted with Weathershield undercoat and then several layers of
weathershield gloss. The decorative work is done with One Shot
Professional sign writers enamel. On top of this is several layers of
Craftsmaster clear varnish which is 97% UV reflective.
How soon are we likely to have to repaint it?
The many coats of varnish should last up to 10 years.
Presumably,
if we have a custom paint job, that will only last as long as the base
paint and will have to be redone at the same time?
There's no reason why a paint job shouldn't last many years with replacement coats of varnish every few years.
How much is the wagon painting and how much to redo it?
The
paint job takes roughly six weeks to do depending on how ellaborate you
would want - but this and designs would be discussed - as a general
guide, I woud say about £1500.
Would you need the caravan back at your workshop or would you come to us?
The caravan would have to come back to the workshop due to the time involved.
I haven't seen side windows on a bow top caravan before and wondered how effectively they are sealed against the weather.
The windows are stitched and sealed with Seamgrip seam sealer - which works well.
Is it feasible to tow the bowtop caravan easily and safely at motorway speeds and without any damage/loosening of the structure.
The
caravan can be towed up to 60 miles an hours - standard caravan speed.
The structure is solidly built to accommodate these speeds and the
braked caravan chassis is very stable and easy to tow. The wooden
structure and the metal base sheet are bolted to the caravan chassis so
the wagon is very secure.
Doesn't the canvas stretch with the constant wind etc?
The canvas is stretched to the point where it won't slacken.
What is the legislation of towing the bowtop caravan?
It is well within the legal requirements of size and weight and has the required
tail light and indicator system.
.
Max legal width 2.3metres : Actual width at bow 2.0metres.
Max legal length 7metre : Actual length 5.9metres.
Recommended height 3.0metre (no actual legal height required) : Actual height 2.42m.
Max legal weight 3500kg on braked trailer : Actual weight 8ookg.
